Deutsches Erdölmuseum Wietze

Digitization of the Historical Photo Archive of the Deutsches Erdölmuseum Wietze

In a joint project, we supported the Deutsches Erdölmuseum Wietze in digitizing its historical photo archive. The aim was to preserve the valuable collection and make it digitally accessible for the long term.

Our tasks comprised several key project stages:

  • Collection Review and Workflow Development:
At the outset, we carried out a comprehensive review of the collection and developed a digitization workflow in close collaboration with the museum. During an on-site workshop, we defined the processes for metadata capture and categorization as well as the technical parameters such as resolution, color depth, and color space.

  • Project Coordination:
The requirements for the digitization process were coordinated between CDS Gromke, the Deutsches Erdölmuseum Wietze, and the Gemeinsamer Bibliotheksverbund (GBV) Göttingen.

  • Technical Setup On Site:
We handled the transport, setup, and configuration of the digitization equipment directly on site in Wietze.

  • Digitization and Post-Processing:
The digitization was carried out on site using a PhaseOne IQ3 Trichromatic system. The resulting digital files were then processed and prepared for integration into the “kuniweb” database for museum collections, hosted by the Gemeinsamer Bibliotheksverbund (GBV) Göttingen.

  • Metadata Integration:
Finally, the provided metadata were refined and embedded into the IPTC fields of the digital files.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to the Deutsches Erdölmuseum Wietze for the excellent collaboration and the trust placed in our work.
